Moments from The Grand Inga Project – Training on the Dead Dutchman Rapids
The team prepared and trained for the Congo River by practicing on the huge rapids of the White Nile in Uganda. They spent days kayaking large rapids like the Dead Dutchman Rapid to make sure they were ready for the Congo.
You might be wondering why this rapid is called the Dead Dutchman. As legend goes back in the day there was a Dutchman rafting everything down the middle of the White Nile. When he made it to the “Dead Dutchman” rapids he took it down the middle and right into a massive hole. Thus naming it the Dead Dutchman rapids.
